For Superbowl Sunday, February 6, join us at Planet Patchwork for a one-day mystery quilt from Diane Hundley, the designer of Planet Patchwork's amazing star-studded blocks of the month. We will begin the proceedings at 10:00 a.m. EST on Sunday and post installments hourly. Links to the installments will be posted at the bottom of this page, and at the bottom of the previous installment.

There will be a total of six installments (including this fabric and cutting installment), with the last one posted at 2:00 p.m. eastern time. Chat with Diane online and register for hourly door prizes. These mysteries are especially fun to do in groups, so gather your friends and fire up your computer and your sewing machine and join us for a companionable day of sewing and talk. You will find the design to be mysterious indeed, as the seemingly simple pieces come together in unexpected ways to make a dramatic statement at the end.

*** NOTE **** Fabric yardage given is generous amounts.


Quilt Notes - You should choose fabrics that coordinate well together, but beyond that, the sky's the limit! The quilt will look great in anything but directional prints. I would recommend you use crisp bright clear fabrics. Let each color stand on its own and not blend into the other fabrics chosen.


Fabric Requirements:
These measurements presume you are using 44" - 45" wide fabric unless otherwise indicated.


A) Background – 2 1/8 yards
For our sample we chose Black by Moda Dots
B) Bright Fabric – 1/2 yard of each of the following
For our sample we chose Red by Cranston Village
C) Bright Fabric – 1/2 yard
For our sample we chose a Blue Moda Marble
D) Bright Fabric – 1/2 yard
For our sample we chose a Green Moda Marble
E) Bright Fabric – 1/2 yard
For our sample we chose a Purple Moda Marble
F) Bright Fabric – 1/2 yard
For our sample we chose a Yellow by Marcus Brothers

Borders

A) Inner Border 1/3 yard

     Outer Border 1/3 yard

C) Middle Border 1/3 yard

Additional fabric needed to finish the Mystery quilt
Backing Material - 42" fabric 4 yards (this will allow extra all around for quilting)
Batting - Twin size Batting
Binding - 1/2 yard (if you cut your binding 2 1/4") – For our sample we chose Fabric A

Fabric A - Background (Black)
Cut 8 pieces 2 1/2" x WOF
*Sub cut these 2 1/2” x 20”- 22” according to the width of your fabric.
Cut 8 rectangles 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Cut 10 squares 6 7/8"
Cut 32 pieces 1 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Cut 36 pieces 1 1/2" x 13 1/2"


Fabric B – Red
Cut 3 pieces 2 1/2" x WOF
*Sub cut these 2 1/2” x 20”- 22” according to the width of your fabric.
Cut 1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Cut 1 square 1 1/2"
Cut 3 squares 6 7/8"


Fabric C – Blue
Cut 3 pieces 2 1/2" x WOF
*Sub cut these 2 1/2” x 20”- 22” according to the width of your fabric.
Cut 1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Cut 1 square 1 1/2"
Cut 3 squares 6 7/8"


Fabric D – Green
Cut 3 pieces 2 1/2" x WOF
*Sub cut these 2 1/2” x 20”- 22” according to the width of your fabric.
Cut 1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Cut 1 square 1 1/2"
Cut 3 squares 6 7/8"


Fabric E – Purple
Cut 3 pieces 2 1/2" x WOF
*Sub cut these 2 1/2” x 20”- 22” according to the
width of your fabric.
Cut 1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Cut 1 square 1 1/2"
Cut 3 squares 6 7/8"


Fabric F – Yellow
Cut 4 pieces 2 1/2" x WOF
*Sub cut these 2 1/2” x 20”- 22” according to the
width of your fabric.
Cut 1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Cut 5 squares 1 1/2"


INNER BORDER
Fabric A - 1/3 yard
Cut 6 pieces 1 1/2" x WOF


MIDDLE BORDER
Fabric C - 1/3 yard
