This quilt, "Autumn Fencerails" began as an AOL autumn colors swap. Only, I liked my fabrics so much I dropped out of the swap and made this instead. Machine pieced and appliqued, machine quilted with long swoops and hand quilted with swirls and circles to show the winds of Autumn.

This was made for a co-worker who adopted a baby girl from China. I wanted to express the excitement and the high hopes we had for them. The balloon fabric was given to my by a daughter-in-law - it was torn and in odd shaped pieces, but had just the right feeling. The design just built itself around the balloons. Machine pieced and quilted.

This is one of the quilts mentioned, "Celestial Pond." When I was having a stressful time at work, designing and making the quilt provided a means of solace, as well as a challenge to try a new pattern (From the book, Frogs and Flowers). The pond holds fish, frogs and water lilies. The center border is a seaweed fabric which represents the marsh I live on, and the border is stars and planets. I hung this in my office at work and when things got frustrating, I took a little mental dip in my private swimming pool. It really worked!
