The Patchwork Project, Volume 1 

Planet Patchwork has been closely involved with Electric Quilt software since the early 1990s, when we began exploring quilt design software, and eventually took over management of the Info-EQ maillist, the earliest e-mail support list for Electric Quilt users. Over the years we’ve watched EQ grow and mature from a relatively limited DOS program to a Windows-based powerhouse that now dominates the market for computerized quilt design.  

Along with the program, the growing user base of Electric Quilt aficionados has grown more creative and sophisticated. Led by well-known EQ expert and author Barb Vlack, a growing group of users became proficient and began to really test the capabilities of the software. The results were amazing. It soon became clear that the only limitations in the Electric Quilt software are related to the imaginations of the users. And those appeared to have no limits! 

In late 2005, Planet Patchwork decided to sponsor a contest for this talented pool of users to get them to strut their stuff for fame and fortune. As a result we received nearly 200 entries in categories which included traditional, contemporary, and holiday designs. We posted the prize-winners in each category at our website, for our many visitors to enjoy. 

Now we have gathered up all of the best of these designs and published them on a CD in EQ5 project format. For easy viewing, we have also included (with the gracious permission of the good folks at Electric Quilt) a copy of EQ5 Show, which creates a slide show of the project files. If you’re an EQ5 user, or would like to be, you can get this CD and all of these wonderful designs for your own enjoyment exclusively from Planet Patchwork. Since the files are in EQ’s .prj format, they require you have Electric Quilt installed. If you don’t already have EQ5, you can purchase the bonus disk at a significantly discounted price along with your copy of the software.
